Free Remove Line Breaks Tool
Clean up text copied from PDFs and emails by removing line breaks, extra spaces and empty lines
Options

Your text stays in this browser tab. It is not uploaded, sent to an AI, or saved.
Key takeaways
Paste text and get it back with the line breaks joined into flowing paragraphs. Choose what to remove: line breaks, extra spaces, empty lines, tabs, or spaces at the ends of lines.
Turn on "Keep paragraph breaks" to join only the lines inside each paragraph and keep the gaps between them.
It is meant for text copied from PDFs, emails, scanned documents and web pages, where lines break in the wrong places.
It runs in your browser. Your text is not uploaded or saved.
Fix Text That Breaks in the Wrong Places
If you have ever copied a paragraph out of a PDF and pasted it into a document, you know the result: every line ends where it ended on the page, so the text is chopped into short lines that do not match the new width. Emails and scanned documents do the same. Fixing it by hand means pressing Delete at the end of every line.
This tool does it in one step. Paste the text into the box and the cleaned version appears under it, ready to copy.
What You Can Remove
Each option is a switch, so you decide how much to change.
- Replace line breaks with a space. Joins the lines into one block. This is the default, and it keeps words from running together. Turn it off to join lines with nothing between them, which is useful when a line break cut a word in the middle, such as in a copied URL.
- Keep paragraph breaks. Leaves blank lines in place and only joins the lines inside each paragraph. Use it when your text has several paragraphs and you want to keep them.
- Remove extra spaces. Turns any run of spaces into a single space.
- Trim spaces at the start and end of each line. Removes the stray spaces that PDFs and emails often leave at line ends.
- Remove empty lines. Deletes blank lines. With "Keep paragraph breaks" on, it reduces the gap between paragraphs to a single line break.
- Replace tabs with a space. Turns tab characters into spaces.
The result shows the number of lines before and after, and the word count, so you can see what changed.
Common Uses
- Text copied from a PDF. The most common reason people search for this. Join the lines, keep the paragraphs, and paste.
- Email threads. Quoted emails are often wrapped at a fixed width with line breaks in the middle of sentences.
- Lists to one line. Turn a column of items into a single line, then separate them with commas using the alphabetize list tool, which can also sort them.
- Data from spreadsheets. Cells that contain line breaks can be flattened before pasting elsewhere.
- Messages with a character limit. A single block is easier to fit. Check the length with the character counter.
- Preparing text for AI tools. Cleaner text gives better results. The buttons under the box carry your text to the free AI summarizer or sentence rewriter.
A Short Example
Text as pasted from a PDF:
The quarterly report shows that sales
grew steadily across all regions, with
the largest gain in the north.
With the default options, it becomes one line:
The quarterly report shows that sales grew steadily across all regions, with the largest gain in the north.
If two paragraphs are separated by a blank line and you turn on Keep paragraph breaks, the lines inside each paragraph are joined and the blank line between them stays.
Your Text Stays in Your Browser
The cleaning happens on your device. Nothing you paste is uploaded, saved or sent to an AI. If you click one of the AI buttons, your text is carried over to that tool.
What This Tool Cannot Do
It works on plain text, so it removes formatting such as bold, links and tables when you paste. It cannot tell a line break that splits a paragraph from one that ends a heading or a list item, so for text that mixes them, use "Keep paragraph breaks" and check the result. It also cannot repair hyphenation: if a PDF split a word as "informa-" at the end of a line and "tion" on the next, you will need to fix that word yourself.
