Free Title Case Converter
Convert a list of titles, headings or headlines to title case or sentence case, one per line, in the style you choose
Choose a style
Lowercase: a, an, the, and, as, but, for, if, nor, or, so, yet, at, by, in, of, off, on, per, to, up, via. Every other word is capitalized, including words of four letters or more such as With and From.
Result (APA)

Key takeaways
Paste a list of titles, headings or headlines, one per line, and every line is converted to title case or sentence case at once.
Choose APA, MLA, Chicago (18th or 17th edition), AP or sentence case with a click. The result updates as you change the style.
Only capital letters change. Your words, spelling and punctuation stay as typed, and blank lines stay blank.
It is rule-based and runs in your browser, so the same input always gives the same output, nothing is uploaded.
Convert Many Titles at Once
This converter is built for lists. Paste a column of blog titles, a set of section headings, a batch of email subject lines or a list of video titles, and each line comes back converted, in the same order. Blank lines stay blank, so a list with gaps keeps its shape.
Pick a style with the buttons above the box and the whole list changes at once, so you can compare APA with Chicago or switch to sentence case in a click. A "worth a second look" box under the result lists the words most likely to need your judgment. If you want one title with notes shown under it, use the capitalize my title tool.
Title Case vs Sentence Case
Two conventions cover most headings:
- Title case capitalizes the main words: "How to Start a Blog in Ten Steps."
- Sentence case capitalizes only the first word, proper nouns and acronyms: "How to start a blog in ten steps."
Which one you need depends on where the heading will appear. Academic styles often use title case for the titles of works and, in some styles, sentence case for reference list titles. Many websites and apps now prefer sentence case for interface text and headings because it reads as more relaxed. Check the guide for your publication, or look at how existing headings on your site are written, and be consistent.
For title case there are several sets of rules, and you choose with the buttons.
| Style | What you get |
|---|---|
| APA | Words of four letters or more are capitalized, and shorter articles, conjunctions and prepositions are lowercase |
| MLA | Prepositions of any length, articles and coordinating conjunctions are lowercase |
| Chicago (18th edition) | Prepositions of four letters or fewer are lowercase, and five letters or more are capitalized |
| Chicago (17th edition and earlier) | All prepositions are lowercase |
| AP | Principal words and any preposition or conjunction of four or more letters are capitalized |
| Sentence case | Only the first word, the first word after a colon, acronyms and the word I are capitalized |
The rules are taken from the style guides' own pages: APA Style, the MLA Style Center and the Chicago Manual of Style. The AP Stylebook is a paid reference, so we apply its title rule as commonly published and you should check your edition. The styles genuinely differ on words like "from," "with" and "between," so a title can be correct in one guide and wrong in another.

What It Keeps and What You Should Check
Because the rules are fixed, the tool is consistent, and also literal:
- Acronyms and brands you typed with capitals are kept, such as NASA, FBI, iPhone and eBay. A short list of very common terms, such as AI, SEO, FAQ, CEO and YouTube, is fixed even when typed in lowercase.
- Other names typed in lowercase are treated as ordinary words. If a company or place was lowercased, capitalize it after converting.
- Sentence case needs care with names. If the text you paste is already in title case or all capitals, the tool cannot tell names from ordinary words, so it lowercases them and says so. If your text mixes capitals and lowercase, words you capitalized in the middle of a line are kept as likely names.
- Prepositions that can also be adverbs, such as "up" in "give up," follow the style's list, and the tool notes the call.
- One heading per line. A full paragraph pasted in is treated as a single long title.
Tips for Cleaner Results
- Pick the style first. Switching afterwards is instant, but it is easy to forget.
- Skim the notes under the result.
- Read the last word of each line. It is always capitalized in title case, even a small one.
- Check names and brands after converting.
- Be consistent. Use one style for a whole document or site.
Your Text Stays in Your Browser
The converting happens on your device. Nothing you paste is uploaded, saved or sent to an AI.
What This Tool Cannot Guarantee
Title case rules have exceptions, and a program cannot see your sentence. It can be wrong about words that work as both a preposition and an adverb, about names it does not know, and about titles in other languages or with unusual conventions. Style guides also change between editions, and publishers add their own rules. Treat the output as a fast first pass, and check anything that must be exact, such as a manuscript or a reference list, against the guide you were given.
