Most business reports are not hard to understand. They are hard to write, because the facts live in spreadsheets, meeting notes, and people's heads, and someone has to pull them into a clear narrative that a busy reader will actually finish. Writingful helps with that last step. You give it the findings, the numbers, and the audience, and it drafts the summary, the structure, and the plain-language explanation, with your choice of 18 AI models.
A report is only as good as its numbers. AI does not do your analysis, and it can misstate or invent figures, so every number in a draft must come from your data and be checked. Reports also often contain confidential information about customers, finances, or strategy, which should not be pasted into a tool without thinking about where it goes. Use AI to organize and phrase what you already know.
Below you will find what you can do with Writingful for reports, example prompts with sample outputs, 20 ideas, and guidance on accuracy, clarity, and confidentiality.

Write an executive summary of about 120 words for a customer satisfaction survey report using only these findings (example data). 412 customers responded; the response rate was 34%. Overall satisfaction averaged 4.2 out of 5, up from 3.9 last year. The highest-rated area was product quality (4.5). The lowest-rated area was delivery speed (3.6). The top request in comments was faster shipping. Recommendation: review shipping options. Do not add conclusions that are not supported by these facts.

Using AI for business report writing responsibly
Reports are used to make decisions, so accuracy and confidentiality matter. These are the main points to know when you use AI to help write one.
Every number must come from your data
NIST's Generative AI Profile is a companion to its AI Risk Management Framework that helps organizations identify risks specific to generative AI, including confabulation, where a model confidently states something false. In a report that can mean a wrong percentage, an invented trend, or a conclusion your data does not support. Provide the figures yourself and check every one.
Source: NIST: Generative AI ProfileWrite in plain language
The federal plain language guidelines say that content should be written for its specific audience, and the same principle helps any report. Define terms, use short sentences, and put the conclusion first. A clear report is easier to review and less likely to be misunderstood.

Reports often include customer data, financial results, or strategy. Before you paste anything into an AI tool, check your company's policy and the tool's terms, and remove names and sensitive details where you can. Share the finished report only with people who are meant to see it.
Public companies have disclosure rules
Under Regulation FD, when a public company or someone acting for it discloses material nonpublic information to certain securities market professionals or shareholders, it generally must also make public disclosure, simultaneously for intentional disclosures and promptly for non-intentional ones. Do not circulate reports with unreleased material information outside your disclosure process.

Someone must own the report and its conclusions. Do not let a draft present a recommendation as your organization's view unless a person has reviewed and approved it. Keep notes on what data and sources the report used so that others can check it.

Writing business reports people actually read
Most reports are too long and too late. The ones that get read lead with the point, show the evidence, and make clear what the reader should do. AI can speed up the drafting, but the thinking is still yours.
Start with the conclusion
Put the main finding and the recommendation first, then the evidence. Readers who stop after the first paragraph should still know what you want them to do.
Keep the numbers on a short leash
Give the model the figures it needs and tell it not to calculate. Then read each number against your source. Our SEO report template is an example of a clear, number-driven monthly report.
Structure first, then write
An outline makes the writing faster and the report clearer. Our guide to writing an outline shows a simple way to plan. The same logic works for a one-page summary or a long report.
Edit for the reader's grade level
Dense language slows down decisions. Our guide to Flesch-Kincaid grade levels explains how to measure and improve how easy a report is to read.
