Social media is a stream, and a stream needs feeding. Most people and small teams know what they want to say but lose the time to turn it into a post that fits each platform. Writingful helps you draft captions, posts, and threads in seconds, from a few details about what you are announcing, with your choice of 18 AI models. Write once, then adapt for each channel.

AI writes smooth posts that can sound alike. The fix is to put specific details, real opinions, and your own voice into the prompt, then edit. Social posts are also advertising when you are promoting something or being paid to, and several disclosure and honesty rules apply, whether or not an AI helped write them.

Below you will find what you can do with Writingful for social media, example prompts with sample outputs, 20 post ideas, and the guidance worth knowing before you hit publish.

Your prompt

Write a LinkedIn post of about 90 words announcing that I have started a new role as Operations Manager at Clearwater Logistics (fictional). Facts: I was previously a shift supervisor at a regional warehouse for five years. I am looking forward to working with the Clearwater team on improving delivery times. Thank my former team. Professional but warm. No clichés like "thrilled" or "humbled". One short question at the end.

I have started a new role as Operations Manager at Clearwater Logistics.

For the past five years, I worked as a shift supervisor at a regional warehouse. I learned a great deal there, and I am grateful to the team I worked with every day. Thank you.

At Clearwater, I will be working with the team to improve delivery times, and I am looking forward to getting started.

How it works

How social media writing works in Writingful

  1. Step 1 of 4

    Start with one point

Decide the single thing the post should say or do. A post with two points usually lands neither.

  2. Step 2 of 4

    Give details and the platform

Add the real facts, your tone, the platform, and what you want readers to do. Tell the AI what to avoid.

  3. Step 3 of 4

    Draft and compare

Choose from 18 AI models, compare drafts side by side, and pick the version that sounds like you.

  4. Step 4 of 4

    Edit, disclose, and post

Add your own detail, check facts and tags, add any required disclosure, and post when your audience is online.

Accuracy and compliance

Using AI for social media writing responsibly

Social posts can be advertising, and platforms have their own rules too. These are the main points to know.

Disclose paid and connected posts clearly

The FTC's guidance for social media influencers says disclosures must be clear, that a hashtag such as #ad is fine but not required, that vague terms such as "sp", "spon", or "collab" are not enough, and that you should not assume a platform's tool is good enough on its own. Put the disclosure at the start of the caption, where people will see it.

Do not buy or fake engagement

The FTC's rule on consumer reviews and testimonials also addresses fake indicators of social media influence, such as followers or likes generated by bots or fake accounts. Do not use AI to generate fake accounts, comments, or engagement, and do not buy them.

Check facts, quotes, and numbers

AI can state facts, quotes, and statistics that are wrong, and posts spread fast. Verify anything specific before you publish, and do not attribute quotes to real people unless you have the source.

Respect copyright in images, music, and text

Posting someone else's photo, clip, song, or text without permission can infringe copyright, even if you credit them, and fair use depends on the facts. Use content you own, have licensed, or have permission to use.

Follow each platform's rules on AI-generated content

Many platforms now have rules on labeling AI-generated or synthetic media, especially realistic images and video. For example, YouTube requires creators to disclose realistic content made with AI that shows something that did not happen. Text posts are usually not the concern, but check the rules of each platform you use.

Do not invent personal experience

A draft in your voice can claim you tried a product, attended an event, or had a result that did not happen. If a post says "I", it should be true. Edit out anything that is not your real experience.

This page is general information about a software product. It is not legal advice. Writingful does not review posts for compliance with advertising, copyright, or platform rules, and you are responsible for what you publish.

Writing social posts that sound like you

The biggest weakness of AI-drafted social posts is sameness. Feeds are full of posts that start with the same kind of line and end with the same kind of question. Standing out is a matter of specifics.

Lead with something only you could say

A specific detail, a number, or a small story is a better opening than a general statement. Give the model one and ask it to build around it. Our creative copywriting tips show how hooks work.

Write for one platform at a time

A LinkedIn post, an Instagram caption, and a short post for X are different forms. Tell the model the platform, the length, and the tone, and edit the result to fit the way people actually talk there.

Make a simple plan

A few themes, repeated, build an audience. Content mapping is a method for organizing content around your audience's interests, and it works for social as well as websites.

Disclose, always

If you are paid, given a free product, or otherwise connected to a brand, say so clearly. Our article on what testimonial advertising is explains why.
