An online store can have thousands of products and almost no time to describe them. Writingful helps you draft product descriptions, category page copy, buying guides, and customer emails quickly, so your team can spend its time on merchandising and customer service instead of writing the fortieth variation of "premium quality".
AI does not know your products. It cannot verify materials, dimensions, safety claims, or where something is made, and it will make them up if you let it. Give it your product data and check every claim before you publish. Reviews and testimonials are also regulated, and AI-written reviews are not an option.
Below you will find what online stores can create with Writingful, example prompts with sample outputs, 20 topic ideas, and the advertising and search rules worth checking before you publish.

Write a product description of about 60 words for a stainless steel water bottle using only these facts. 24 oz capacity. Double-wall vacuum insulated. In our own lab test at 70°F room temperature it kept drinks cold for 24 hours and hot for 12 hours. BPA-free lid. Fits most cup holders. Available in four colors. Bottle is dishwasher safe, lid is hand wash only. Do not add claims I have not listed.

Writing for ecommerce responsibly
Online stores are covered by advertising, reviews, and email rules, and marketplaces and search engines add their own. These are the main risks with AI-written product content.
Never use AI to write customer reviews
The FTC's final rule on consumer reviews and testimonials prohibits fake and false reviews and testimonials and the sale or purchase of them. The agency said the rule is meant to help deter AI-generated fake reviews. Collect real reviews from real customers, and do not write, buy, or generate them.

Under FTC policy, advertisers must have a reasonable basis for objective claims before they run an ad. A claim such as "keeps drinks cold for 24 hours" needs test evidence you can produce. Keep the substantiation on file, and word the claim to match what your test actually showed.
Source: FTC: Policy Statement Regarding Advertising Substantiation"Made in USA" has a strict standard
The FTC has traditionally required that a product advertised as Made in USA be "all or virtually all" made in the United States. An AI draft may add this phrase to make a product sound better. Remove it unless it is true under the FTC's standard.

The FTC's Green Guides explain how environmental marketing claims, such as "recyclable" or "eco-friendly", can mislead. Do not let a draft make a general green claim about a product or its packaging unless you can substantiate it and word it precisely.
Source: FTC: Green GuidesMarketing emails must follow CAN-SPAM
The CAN-SPAM Act requires accurate header information, non-deceptive subject lines, a clear identification of the message as an ad, your valid physical postal address, and a working way to opt out, which you must honor within 10 business days. AI drafts will not add these for you.

Google Merchant Center's misrepresentation policy does not allow offers that represent you or your products in a way that is not accurate, realistic, and truthful. Google also says it is critical to manually fact-check AI-generated content before publishing. Check product data against your catalog.

Using AI for ecommerce content without the usual mistakes
Most online stores have a long tail of pages that never get proper copy. AI can clear that backlog, but a store's content also carries legal weight, because shoppers rely on it to decide what to buy. The goal is speed without drifting into claims you cannot support.
Feed it your data, not your adjectives
A vague prompt such as "write a great description for this lamp" invites invented features. Give the model your real spec sheet, and tell it to use only those facts. The first example above shows the pattern, including how to carry over a qualification such as the conditions of a lab test.
Use templates for scale, and review samples
When you describe hundreds of similar products, write one careful brief and review a sample of outputs for each product type before you run the rest. Catching a pattern of errors early is far cheaper than fixing a catalog.
Build pages that answer questions
Search traffic to a store often starts with research, not a product name. Guides, comparisons, and FAQs bring in that traffic. Our guides to content mapping and the blog post SEO checklist show how to plan and check them.
Keep reviews real
Reviews are one of the most persuasive parts of a product page and one of the most heavily regulated. If you use testimonials in your marketing, read what testimonial advertising is so you know what to disclose.
