Free Reverse Text Tool

Flip your text backwards, reverse each word, or reverse the order of words and lines

Options

Flips the whole text, so "Hello world" becomes "dlrow olleH".

Result

Your text stays in this browser tab. It is not uploaded, sent to an AI, or saved.

Key takeaways

  • Four modes: reverse the whole text, reverse the letters in each word, reverse the word order, or reverse the line order.

  • It reverses what you see on screen, so emoji and letters with accents stay intact instead of breaking into pieces.

  • Useful for puzzles, checking palindromes, word games, and testing how text behaves backwards.

  • It runs in your browser. Your text is not uploaded or saved.

Reverse Text Four Ways

Type or paste text into the box and choose how to reverse it. The result appears below and updates as you type.

Mode"Hello world" becomesWhat it does
Reverse the textdlrow olleHFlips the whole text, character by character
Reverse each wordolleH dlrowFlips the letters inside each word and keeps the word order
Reverse the word orderworld HelloKeeps each word readable and reverses the order of the words
Reverse the line order(lines swap places)Keeps each line as written and reverses the order of the lines

It Reverses What You See

A simple reverse tool treats text as a string of code units, and that breaks things. An emoji is stored as two or more units, so reversing them splits it into garbage. A letter with an accent can be stored as a base letter plus a mark, and reversing puts the mark on the wrong letter.

This tool reverses by visible characters instead. An emoji, a flag, or "é" stays whole, and a mark stays attached to its letter. So "a😀b" reverses to "b😀a" and not to broken symbols.

What People Use It For

  • Checking palindromes. A palindrome reads the same forwards and backwards, like "level" or "A man, a plan, a canal: Panama" once you ignore spaces and punctuation. Reverse the text and compare.
  • Puzzles and word games. Hide a clue backwards, or decode one.
  • Teaching. Show how word order and letter order change meaning.
  • Testing. Developers and designers reverse text to see how a layout behaves, though right-to-left languages need proper right-to-left support rather than reversed text.
  • Playing around. Send a friend a message to read in a mirror, or turn a list of lines upside down.

Reverse Words vs Reverse Letters

These two modes are easy to mix up:

  • Reverse each word keeps your sentence in the same order, with each word spelled backwards.
  • Reverse the word order keeps every word spelled correctly and flips the sentence around.

If you need a list flipped from the bottom up, use Reverse the line order. If you need it sorted instead, use the alphabetize list tool.

It Is Not a Secret Code

Reversed text looks odd but is trivial to read, so do not use it to hide anything that matters. It is fun, not security.

For other fun text tools, try the free random word generator or the rhyme generator.

Your Text Stays in Your Browser

The reversing happens on your device. Nothing you type is uploaded, saved or sent to an AI.

What This Tool Cannot Do

It reverses the order of characters. It does not mirror them, so the letters are not flipped like a reflection, and it does not turn left-to-right text into correct right-to-left text. In scripts where characters join, such as Arabic, reversing the string gives a result that is not natural writing. For those uses, you need proper language and layout tools, not a reverse.
