Despite being ten years old, Saints Row 3 (SRTT) is still incredibly popular, and for good reason. Because it’s an open-world sandbox game, the possibilities to what you can do are virtually endless. That, coupled with an amazing modding community behind it, make Saints Row III still relevant even today.

If you’re at all interested in SR3, here’s a list of 13 Saints Row 3 mods you should absolutely try. Do note that you might require a NexusMods account for some of the NSFW mods.

You can check out all of them below, but here’s a shortcut to a few of my favorites:

Ultimate Immersion and Gameplay Overhaul Mod

Ultimate Immersion Mod

If you want to download just one mod and one mod only, this is it. It’s arguably one of the most complete Saints Row 3 mods that overhauls the game and changes the way you look at it. This mod includes but isn’t limited to a first-person camera (that’s optional), a sandbox to play in, SweetFX, a HD Texture pack for amazing graphics, a Realism Damage mod for more life-like behaviour, and improved Weapon Textures.

It also includes increased blood to make the game more ‘visual’ and adds female officers. The only caveat is that you have to run it with DirectX 9 to have it working properly, otherwise the HD graphics won’t have any effect.

If you don’t want your body clipping in first person (your character’s edges going through walls and textures), you’ll have to remove all clothes including the shoes and the underwear. It’s strictly a coding thing and there’s no way to get around it.

Another tip is to turn off the HUD as the game is much more immersive without it in first-person view. You can toggle the HUD by pressing ‘9 + semicolon’. You can also zoom in when entering cars by pressing RS (click the right stick).

You can find this mods here.

NOTE: This is supposed to be an overhaul mod so you shouldn’t have any other mods in your directory already. If you do know how to mod you can make it work, but otherwise just install this mod and enjoy the game if you’re new to the modding scene.

Gameplay and Graphics Overhaul Mod (SweetFX)

SR3 SweetFX

This is a similar SR3 mod to the first one we mentioned, but it isn’t as popular. It includes a lot of the same mods packed into one single mod, but it isn’t as vast or as exhaustive. Think of it as a ‘lite’ version, even though it includes most of the same things.

The install is rather easy and simple. All you have to do is unzip the files and copy them to the directory where the game is installed. You can find the full list of mods included in the link to the mod below, but here’s a short summary of a few.

It includes the HD Texture Pack by Hevon, SweetFX for SRTT, Joe’s Tacticool Weapons, and a few other cool game improvements.

You can download this mod here.

NOTE: Just like the Ultimate Immersion Mod, this one should be performed on a clean installation of Saints Row 3. Having other mods could render this mod to not function properly or glitch out. If you’re adept at modding you can make it work, but it’s best to use this mod alone in isolation.

Realistic Patch Mod

SR3 Realistic Mod

This patch was developed to make the game more realistic and fix some inherent bugs that were shipped out when it was launched. Do note that this patch might make the game less fun for some players as it makes it incredibly hard and realistic.

This patch is recommended for experienced players only. It makes the Player the same as an NPC in many regards (you get the same amount of damage as an NPC for instance), so you have to be extremely careful and plan everything out.

The mod’s author managed to complete the game with 0% death, but he states himself that he was using tactics throughout its entirety. The last mission is extremely careful, as killing Cyrus Temple is basically impossible for players who don’t know how to use the environment to their advantage.

NOTE: Using cheats will not progress your challenges in the saints book. Only use this patch if you want to beat the game at its hardest and you want a real challenge.

The mod’s author recommends you to play on Normal as intended and avoid selecting Easy or Hard difficulty levels. You do need the following DLCs before you download this mod:

  • Nyte Blayde Pack
  • Invincible Pack
  • Special Ops Vehicle Pack
  • Z Style Pack

SECOND NOTE: You need a clean version of the game for this patch to work properly. If you have other mods that replace the files of this patch mod it will break it.

You can download this amazing mod and challenge yourself right here.

99.9% and 100% Save File Mod

SR3 Dual Save File

This mod gives you a save file as its title might suggest, but it’s intended for use with the original Saints Row 3 “The Full Package” version on Steam and not the remastered version that was released in 2020. If you don’t have that DLC then it will probably work.

The 100% save file completes the entire game and gets you basically everything, while the 99.9% save file is nearly complete, and all you have to do is get a photo with one fan near the casino. As an added bonus there’s also a 70% save file as that’s where the game gets most interesting.

The mod creator suggests closing Steam and Saints Row 3 completely before pasting the files, as well as disconnecting your internet connection. As of October 2020 your files can be saved to a cloud service, and this basically takes care of overwriting the save file.

After you open up the game it’ll ask you whether you want to download files from the cloud or use the ones on your local device (your computer). Select the local files and enjoy the game.

Ultimate 100% Save File Mod

SR3 Ultimate Save File

The difference between this 100% Ultimate Save File and the above-mentioned 99% mod is that this one completes the entire game and unlocks several rare items. In addition to having a 100% completed save file, you also get several rare cars, unobtainable outfits, and a few exciting perks. It’s also devoid of any custom characters or vehicle fluff that most save files contain.

With this Ultimate Save File you get a save that isn’t cheat flagged, has all upgrades untouched, the assassinations and vehicle thefts are left untouched, and all collectibles and activities are completed or unlocked.

As an added bonus, you also get cool and special vehicles such as those featured in the pony cart mission, and on top of that you also get to use the glitched laser pistol (do note that the use of the laser requires you to have the Gangstas in Space DLC).

All cheats have been entered and unlocked, and the spawning point for the ultimate save file is the Saints HQ. You can view the full list of cars and outfits unlocked on the official download file.

Nude Female Mod

SR3 Nude Mod

This is the first mod on this list which is truly NSFW. It modifies the way women look in the game, so follow the link below to download this mod at your own discretion. It’s a full nude female character mod complete with detailed textures
 and it’s uncensored.

It was created by the same guy who designed the original nude female mod for Saints Row 4, but this one has been slightly modified and adapted for SR3. It’s somewhat customizable too, with several different textures, but I’ll let you explore those yourself and not delve into the topic any deeper.

The download page mentions how to unpack and install the mod, as well as how to customize it to your own liking. There’s a special ‘Skin Options’ folder which hosts the different textures, so feel free to mix and match and explore all the different combinations.

You can download this NSFW Saints Row 3 nude mod right here.

Better Bras Mod

SR3 Better Bras Mod

As its name would imply, this is a mod that implements better bras for Saints Row 3. It’s actually a partial conversion from Blackout’s Better Bras mod, but it works excellent in SR3. This mod converts the “Barely there Saints G” and the “Saints Gone Wild High G” for SRTT.

The link explains how to properly install the mod in order to get it working correctly, as well as how to update accompanying mods. As an added bonus, the mod’s owner has also converted the “Beach Bandeau Bra” from Blackout.

As you can probably guess, this is a NSFW mod, but is arguably one of the easiest ones to install. You won’t be able to play the normal SR3 after this though, so don’t say we didn’t warn you.

You can find the link to download this Saints Row 3 nude mod here.

Uncut Patch Mod for German Version

SR3 German patch mod

This is a simple mod (it’s actually a patch) specifically built for the German Low Violence version. It replaces the .exe files as well as the .vpp_pc ones with files from the English uncut version.

This isn’t just an uncensored mod though, as it also fixes numerous other issues with the German version, such as inabilities to use civilians as human shields, civilians that don’t drop money, and it enables the wh*red mode.

As an added side note, we should mention that this renders the game unplayable in German, so you will probably be able to continue with the storyline only in English. Downloading the mod is simple, but there are two ways of going about it.

You can either download and use the optional files included in the link, or use the verify file integrity option if playing on Steam directly.

Download and install this mod here.

Saints Row 4 Hairstyles Mod

SR3 Hairstyles Mod

This mod includes 19 different hairstyles for Saints Row 3, and most of them have been converted from Saints Row 4. The mod has been ported by MLVNRT, and is a stunning graphical enhancement to the already brilliant SR3.

Do note that this mod is only viable for female boss characters, and as such doesn’t affect the male characters. It’s received several updates throughout its history, but is currently at a stable and enjoyable version. The link explains how to install the mod as well, which is a fairly simple process.

You can check out this mod right here.

SR3 Speed Mod

SR3 Speed mod

This is a simple mod that ‘fixes’ the player speed to match that to Saints Row IV. It also makes swimming super quick and much less tedious. Installation is also simple and the link clearly explains the steps necessary for the mod to work properly.

There’s not much else to say about this mod really. You can check it out right here.

New Homies Mod

SR3 Homies Mod

This one started off as a private mod, but the owner decided to later release it for the general public to enjoy. It essentially adds 4 new homies to your cellphone. The initial mod had more characters on offer, but as the count increased some of the plain vanilla ones would start to disappear, so eventually the mod creator settled for just 4.

The 4 new homies include:

  • Morningstar
  • Luchadores
  • Deckers
  • Space Saints

This mod also makes the Bloody Canoness spawn with the Nyte Blayde, it makes some of the cyber space decker units a lot stronger, and it tweaks certain character values to make them behave friendlier. Last but not least, it also gives all the space saints STAG laser guns.

The installation job is a simple copy and paste ordeal. You can find this Saints Row 3 mod here.

Super Jump and Flying Mod

SR3 Super Jump Mod

This amazing mod was made possible by Dead-Deadisland. As the name would imply, it makes flying and jumping really high possible in Saints Row III. You can jump from the street and land on buildings, reach places you never thought possible, and even glide throughout the city like Superman.

The mechanics can be a little tricky at first, especially if you’ve never played a game where flying is possible, but it all gets easier with just a little bit of practice. In my personal experience, this is one of the best mods if you’re just having fun and want to waste some time. It’s also an excellent tool to learn the city and explore new areas.

The mod creator does mention that this is a stand-alone mod and as such should not be used with other mods. You can check it out here.

SRTT Challenge Mod

SR3 Challenge Mod

In case you find the regular game a bit boring and uninspiring, you can challenge yourself with this mod which renders the game much more difficult. You get less income from properties, upgrading vehicles is vastly more expensive, and so are any character modifications you might wish to indulge in.

The list doesn’t end there though. Guns also carry less ammo, your HP regenerates at a slower rate, and fighting zombies, bosses etc. is noticeably harder than before. If you’re still not put off by it and you accept the challenge, you can download this mod right here.
