AI content creation tools have become increasingly popular in the last few years, providing marketers, bloggers, writers, and companies with an efficient way to produce high-quality articles and blogs.
Rytr, a well-known AI writing assistant, is just one of many AI tools that have gained traction in the past couple of years. To find out if it’s good, we'll discuss Rytr's features, pricing, user feedback, and alternatives.
To put it simply, Rytr is an AI writing tool (assistant) that can generate a wide range of written content, from email campaigns and blog posts to product descriptions and social media captions. For those who might lack the time or expertise to manually create high-quality content, Rytr can generate content based on user input using a natural language processing (NLP) model.
The main benefit of Rytr is its ability to produce content fast in a variety of niches while offering customization options for template, content length, and tone. That being said, it still has benefits and drawbacks, just like any other tool.
Rytr AI offers a few pricing plans, making it accessible to both casual users and businesses.
Everything the Free Plan offers, plus:
Everything the Unlimited plan offers, plus:
The Free Plan is ideal for occasional users or those interested in trying out the platform, while the Unlimited and Premium plans cater to more frequent or professional users with higher content demands.
User reviews from reliable platforms are crucial for assessing an AI tool's performance in practical situations. Here’s a quick summary of Rytr's reviews on a number of well-known review sites.
On Trustpilot, Rytr holds a strong reputation, with over 90% of users giving it 5 stars. That being said, it should be noted that at the time of writing this article, Trustpilot made Rytr’s TrustScore unavailable due to a breach of their guidelines.
Positive feedback: Users frequently mention Rytr's quick content generation abilities, saying it saves them a lot of time when writing blog posts or social media content. Many users also appreciate the multilingual support and the simple user interface, which requires minimal learning.
Negative feedback: On the flip side, Rytr reviews have highlighted concerns over the accuracy of generated content and how it occasionally generates irrelevant or repetitive material. Others have noted that while Rytr is excellent for short-form content, it struggles with long-form articles and creative writing.
On G2, Rytr AI writer has an overall positive rating with a 4.5 score out of 806 reviews.
Strengths: G2 users appreciate Rytr's value for money, noting that it's cheaper than many of its competitors but still manages to get the job done. The tool’s speed and availability of diverse templates are frequently praised.
Weaknesses: Just like Trustpilot, G2 reviews also point out that Rytr can struggle with factual accuracy and tends to produce repetitive phrases in longer pieces. Advanced users have expressed disappointment over the lack of customization options in certain templates.
Capterra has just 18 reviews for Rytr, but the overall score is 4.6 and it echoes similar sentiments. Users on this platform generally feel that Rytr is ideal for small businesses or solo entrepreneurs who need quick copy solutions but acknowledge that the content still requires human intervention.
The best thing about Rytr is that you can try it for free. You don’t have to commit to a plan or even enter your credit card details for a trial. If you don’t like their services, you don’t have to upgrade to any of the paid plans.
Signing up with Rytr AI writing tool is super easy since you can use Google, Facebook, or LinkedIn, in addition to registering using an email address. Once you’re in, you’re asked what you’ll mainly use Rytr for so they can customize your settings for your needs and preferences.
First off, I have to say that the interface is really simple and easy to use. Compared to some other AI tools, Rytr is very friendly and I can see why people would be drawn to the ease of use. On the left-hand side, you’re presented with various options such as language, tone/voice, and use case.
To start off, I asked Rytr to create a blog outline. I gave a pretty simple topic asking it to explain what metadata is and why it’s important. Here’s what I got in return.
As you can see, it did a reasonably good job of giving me related subheadings and keywords, but I would never use them directly without editing them first. It’s obvious they’ve been AI-generated, and they’ll never pass an AI detection tool. Still, it gives you a good outline you can definitely use to create an article.
I then asked it to create a section and expand on what metadata is, and I gave it some keywords it recommended earlier. This is the response I got.
Again, it does an okay job of staying on topic and answering the question, but the answer is too formal and ‘clinical’ for lack of a better word. If you’re a content writer or an editor you’ll immediately be able to tell it’s AI content because of the structure and words/expressions such as: “Consider this:” and “In summary.”
You could argue that I gave a slightly technical topic and you’d be right, but it still proves that AI writing tools have their limits and restrictions. On top of that, I tested some of the texts it generated through AI detection tools, and a lot of them picked up on it and gave a high likelihood of the content being AI-generated.
Having tested Rytr for a few weeks, my overall impression is that it’s a decent tool for specific use cases. I primarily used it to generate blog outlines and social media captions. For these types of short-form content, Rytr worked efficiently and saved me significant time in research and brainstorming.
However, every time I tried using Rytr for blog posts or more technical content, I found that the output required significant editing. While Rytr did an excellent job of getting the skeleton of the article in place, the sentences felt robotic and the flow wasn’t natural.
Rytr is a great tool if you need inspiration or you’re dealing with writer's block, but I wouldn’t recommend publishing Rytr’s output without thorough review and editing.
When it comes to content quality, Rytr is a mixed bag. It can generate coherent and grammatically correct sentences, but the content lacks depth and creativity. Perhaps AI will be able to replace human writers one day, but we’re still not there yet.
While Rytr is a popular tool, there are many other AI writing assistants on the market that might better suit different needs. Here are 11 sites like Rytr to consider:
Yes, the basic package is free, but you’re limited to 10k characters per month.
Yes, on most platforms such as Trustpilot and G2 users have expressed their positive experiences with Rytr.
Just like Rytr, you can access other AI tools for free (such as ChatGPT) but you’ll be limited in terms of character or word count. To unlock all features, you’ll need to subscribe to a plan.
To cap it all off, let me just say that I do like Rytr and I will continue to use it for short-form content. Just like most other AI content tools, I think they excel at coming up with ideas and topics. I would never use one to write an article, but they’re excellent at brainstorming topics and ideas.
If you’re willing to invest some time in editing and fact-checking, Rytr can be a useful addition to your content creation toolkit. However, if you need highly polished and SEO-optimized content, you should definitely check out Writingful’s packages and services.
